YOUNG, MARY LOUISE
[br][br]Mary Louise Young, 91, formerly of Spokane Valley, passed away on May 25, 2016 in Corvallis, OR. She was born in Easton, PA on June 3, 1924, to John H and Gladys Gunning.
After her husband finished his medical degree at the University of Maryland, the family moved to Milwaukee, WI, then to Wenatchee, WA, before finally settling in near Spokane where they remained until the 1984.
She was preceded in death by her two brothers, John H. and Benjamin N. Gunning, her husband, Dr. Robert H. Young, Jr. and her son, David N. Young. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Michael and Teresa Young of Palmdale, CA, daughter and son-in-law Helen and Mehmet Kupeli of Corvallis, OR, daughter-in-law Teresa Young of Salem, OR, and several grandchildren.

DAVIS, LEONARD (LEO) A
[br][br]Leonard (Leo) A. Davis was born July 29, 1939 in Hamilton, MT and passed away at Rose Point Assisted Living on May 31, 2016. He led such an adventurous life that was full of so many chapters! He was raised in Spokane, graduated from North Central High School, and then enlisted in the Air Force. Most of his working career was associated with VW's and other cars. He retired as a Service Manager from Tom Addis Dodge and then later volunteered at Barlow's Restaurant in Liberty Lake. He was very active in his younger days with car racing and there were many, many, enjoyable times spent on his sailboat and at his parent's cabin on Lake CDA . Fishing was his passion and being on the lake was heaven to him.
Leo had numerous major medical issues over the last 15 years, but didn't let anything slow him down. Leo was a person that didn't know a stranger and dearly loved to interact with people. He was quite the character! People who were able to get passed his "mischief" became his friend for life. He was also known to be a very generous man and truly enjoyed giving to others. His faithful sidekick, Romeo was at his side when he passed away.
He is survived by his daughter Mindy, husband John, and grandchildren, Kelsie, Ely and Abby. His son Jerry, wife Danielle, and grandsons, Colby and Braden. His brother Richard Davis. And precious friends who became family to him (Jim, Lee, Dean, Bobbi Jo, Alicia, Scott, among many others). He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Bee & Franklin Davis, and sister, Marilyn Smith.
A private memorial will be planned to celebrate his life. Memorial donations can be made to Gentiva Hospice of Spokane and/or SCRAPS. Treats for the wonderful hard working staff at Rosepointe Assisted Living would also be greatly appreciated.

BROADBENT, GARY D
[br][br]Long time Basketball official and Umpire Gary Broadbent passed away on May 3 2016.
Gary was born to Douglas and Irene on July 26 1939, in Boise Idaho. He was raised in Colbert Wa. And Graduated from Mead High School in 1957
Gary's dedication to the Spokane community reaches back more than 50 years ago when Gary started referring YMCA basketball. Since then Gary has officiated basketball, baseball, softball and volleyball, including local, state and national events His love and commitment to our Spokane community is exceeded only by the love and admiration of all the generations who met him on the court or engaged him behind the plate.
A Celebration of the life has been set for Saturday, June 18, 11:00 a.m., at Bowdish Middle School gymnasium located at 2109 S Skipworth Rd, Spokane Valley

BROWN, RICHARD "DICK" E.
[br][br]Richard E. Brown passed away peacefully on May 18, 2016. He was born on May 13, 1923 to Emmett R. Brown and Eula McCabe Brown on a farm in southern Iowa.
Dick attended high school in Seymour, Iowa and for a short time, Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois before enlisting in the Navy during World War II. He was stationed in the Marshall Islands and worked as a machinist for landing crafts.
Dick returned to Iowa and married Norma Eulee Long in 1948. They moved to California before coming to Spokane in 1950. Dick enjoyed a successful career in construction and founded Warner and Brown Construction, followed by Brown Building Materials in 1958.
Dick was a vital member of the Spokane community. He was driven by an innate sense of fairness, integrity and generosity. He was an active member of the Spokane Scottish Rite Free Masons and El Katif Shriners which he found extremely rewarding, made a lasting impression on all and established a wonderful group of friends. Dick volunteered nearly 5,000 hours at Spokane Shriners Hospital. He recently presented a generous donation for the hospital's EOS Imaging Suite. Devoted to institutions that meant a great deal to him, Dick dontated over 36 gallons of blood to the Inland Northwest Blood Center. He served on the Board of Directors for Spokane School District 81 as well as Deaconess Hospital. Dick was also a past president of the Inland Northwest Associated General Contractors of America.
He was the proud and loving father of three sons; Ron (Judy), Eric (Lisa), and Norm (Bernadette) and two grandsons, Jared and Trevor. Dick is also survived by his "older sister" Virginia Sales and numerous nieces and nephews. Dick is preceded in death by his wife Norma.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on June 6, 2016 at Touchmark on South Hill, 2929 S. Waterford Dr., Spokane, WA at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children - Spokane or Inland Northwest Honor Flight.
Dad...Pops...Grandad...lover of laughs, great man of genuine kindness, our teacher and advisor.

Passed away peacefully on June 2nd. She was born in Prichard Alabama on December 9th 1937. She loved the Lord and attending church services. Anyone that knew her, knew that she had an astonishingly big heart. She was a caregiver that was there if anyone needed a helping hand. She will be genuinely missed by all who knew her. Brooke passed suddenly and unexpectedly, at home, with his wife and children present. He was born to Holly and Joe Plastino on June 4, 1947, and died on his Birthday, June 4, 2016. Brooke lived with his Grandparents, Gus and Anna Fix, much of his childhood, returning to care for his Grandfather in his Senior years. Brooke served in the US Army during the Vietnam Era, stationed in Germany. While there he was able to visit Italy, Spain, and other Countries. He loved the European Art. He graduated from Adams State College in Alamosa, Colorado with an Archaeology Degree. He worked the Four Corners area in the Southwest, and was at Mesa-Verde for a while. He was also an Archaeologist with Washington State Archaeological & Historical Services at E. W. U.. Some of you may remember Brooke when he was legislative assistant to former County Commissioner Bonnie Mager. He was a Business Owner & Community Leader in Hillyard, having a major part in getting Hillyard on the National Historical Register as a Historical Business District. He was a mover in acquiring the Hillyard Skate Park for the Community, Co-Founder of the Hillyard 'ChalkArtWalk' event, participated in the Neighborhood Clean-up and many other Events. A long-time Bemiss neighborhood leader, he fought to support safety and vitality of the neighborhood. He was involved in many organizations and efforts in the Greater Hillyard area and was a strong voice for the needs of working families. More recently, Brooke was a prolific user of Nextdoor, a social networking site that connects people within neighborhoods. He used the site to let folks know about crime & promote Events and positive things going on in the neighborhood. He and his wife loved to go camping in the Mountains, he loved Nature. He enjoyed working in his Garden, on his home, carving, and Flint Knapping. He thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his Grandchildren, kids, and Family. He was an Artist, a Father, a Husband, a Grandfather, a Son, a Brother, an Uncle and so many other things to other people. Brooke is survived by his loving wife, Vicki of 24 years, his Daughter, Kiley (Colo), His Step-children, Michael Killough (Tawnya) Spokane, and Jessie Anderson (Chris) Spokane, and 11 Grandchildren. He was preceded in Death by his Grandparents, Gus & Anna Fix, Monica Edsell, His Step-Father Buddy Jones and his Uncle John Plastino.
There will be a Memorial at the Salvation Army Chapel, 222 E. Indiana Ave, Spokane Wash on Friday, June 10, 11 a.m.. Everyone who knew or knew of Brooke is welcome. A Reception at his Son's home will be at 3 pm.

[br][br]Virginia Bell(Woods)(Torvik) Davis was preceded in death by her parents Tom and Myrtle Woods, her husband Larry Davis, and her five brothers and two sisters. She is survived by her children John, Steve, Sonja, Ron, Susan, and Pam. Ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Many nieces and nephews.
Virginia's true love and gift in life was caring for children.
Our mother was amazing and much loved by her family and will be truly missed.
A Celebration of her Life will be held on Sunday, June 12th fro 11-2 pm at the Quality Inn Oakwood 7919 N. Division.
