Wallace Cole (Wally) was born to Andrew and Maggie Pharness in Onamia, Minnesota on May 6th, 1925. Wally spent the first 11 years of his life in the Onamia area and spoke often of his memories from there, including ice skating as a young boy on the nearby river and seeing his bothers ice fish on Mille Lacs Lake. When he was 11, his family sold their little farm and moved to Spokane. In 1943, Wally joined the US Navy and, after receiving his naval training at Farragut Naval Base in North Idaho, spent three years serving his country during World War II in the South Pacific. After his Honorable Discharge from the Navy, Wally graduated from business school and worked for many years as an accountant, including for the then Pack River Lumber Company. In the late 1960s he decided to enter the real estate field where he became an award-winning agent and broker in the Spokane Area, working for W.C. Spedden and Kestell Reality companies and also starting his own company, Northside Reality. Wally was a devoted father and was constantly involved throughout his life with some effort or project to help his children. In retirement, Wally enjoyed camping and bike riding, and was known to commonly go for bike rides of up to 20 miles, even into his late 80s. He was also active for several years in the local senior performance group "The Hillyard Bells," where he played the harmonica, the accordion, and the juice harp. Wally went home to The Lord on December 3rd, 2014, in Spokane, Washington. He was laid to rest in the Rose Garden at Riverside Memorial Cemetery in Spokane on December 9th, with full military honors. He is survived by his sons Wallace Cole Jr. and Rodney, his ex-wife Betty Jean (Eakins), two granddaughters Heather Silke and Amber Walker, great granddaughter Violet, great grandsons Taylor and Zachary, and sister Evelyn Hamers. He was proceeded in passing by his brothers Harold, Arthur, Leslie, Weslie, and sister Madeline. Dad left us with many, many fond "Norman Rockwell-like" childhood memories of our country home due to his devotion to his children and his love of the holidays he will be (is already) deeply missed.
